Terms of Service

Using PickVids

PickVids is a public catalog of videos that real people recommended. You can open category pages and video pages without an account. By using the site you agree to these terms.

The player

Video pages show a thumbnail first. A YouTube embed from youtube-nocookie.com loads only after you press play. Playback is provided by YouTube and is subject to YouTube's own terms. PickVids does not host the video file.

Your browser, not an account

Likes, watch later, and history stay in local storage on your device. They are not a PickVids account. The optional email box stores only the address you submit and the time it was submitted. It does not create a login.

The catalog

Titles, topics, and recommendation text come from a public dataset used under the ODC-By 1.0 license. Credit the original data release and open-index/hacker-news if you republish that data. Video images and playback come from YouTube. PickVids is not YouTube, Hacker News, or Y Combinator.

Acceptable use

Do not use the site to break the law, disrupt the service, or scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people. Recommendation links to outside sites are labeled nofollow and are not endorsements by PickVids.

Changes

We may update these terms by publishing a new version on this page. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the updated terms.
